Commissioners Discuss Memorial Road for Fallen Officer

21 6 24 County Commissioners 1536x1152

ZANESVILLE, OH – The Muskingum County Commissioners met today to discuss a memorial road dedication.

Douglass Brown met with the Commissioners to talk about the possibility of naming a road here in Muskingum County after his father, Ronald Brown who devoted his life to law enforcement.

Brown says he’s been working with State Representatives to name a highway after not just his father but also his father’s partner in the line of Duty.

“In 1976, October 27th, my father’s partner, Marshall Ted Holcomb, was killed in the line of duty.” Brown said. “And since that day, my dad pretty much dedicated his life to law enforcement and public service and we’ve been working with Representative Jay Edwards and Representative Adam Holmes on a memorial highway for his partner Marshall Holcomb. I just thought this was a way for a son to honor the legacy of his father.”

Brown says he not only wants to carry on his father’s legacy but to also highlight the work as well as sacrifices officers make each day.

“I just think that a lot of times, law enforcement now doesn’t get the recognition they deserve and Chief Brown dedicated his entire life to law enforcement for 40 years, not only working the streets but also was [at] one of the most successful police academies in the state of Ohio for a number of years and I think it’s just a way to recognize the hard work and dedication of a public servant for the State of Ohio.” Brown said. “A lot of times, you know, like I said it’s an unrecognized thing. There were a lot of losses at home, time spent away, birthdays missed, and he did that to protect the citizens of Ohio and I think it’s just a small way to observe the dedication that he had.”

The Commissioners should reach a decision on the memorial roads sometime in the coming weeks.
