Zanesville Opens State of the Art Athletic Performance Center
ZANESVILLE, OH – Down on Blue Avenue, Zanesville High School is doing everything it can to strength its athletic programs.
Zanesville officially cut the ribbon to unveil its new $250,000 athletic performance center as the school is trying to build excitement about lifting and weight building. This is the school’s third weight room, joining the one in the brand new “STEAM” center as well as in the high school.
In this state of the art weight room, there are sixteen brand new racks installed, each having different lifts to reduce downtime while creating more efficient workouts.
A program that the school began during the 2024-2025 calendar school year allows students to work out during the day for class credit, when not in other classes. Initially opening in 2008, the school has spent the better part of seven years discussing the remodel, even under prior athletic regimes.
“Coach (Scott) Aronhalt is obviously the spearhead of the operation” says athletic director Devin Barnhouse. “Just one thing led to another, which led to another, and finally the funds were raised enough to be able to create a state of the art facility again.”
“This is impressive. This is state of the art, first class” says boys basketball head coach Cedric Harris. “This is huge for our athletics, this is huge for our school, this is huge for our students. This is only going to make us stronger. You know, our younger kids coming up and obviously seeing this, this is just at tremendous asset to our community.”
The weight room resides just beyond Sulsberger Stadium, alongside the high school.
