Double Fatal Ambulance Accident in Guernsey County

The Cambridge Post of the State Highway Patrol is investigating a single vehicle double fatal crash on I-70 in Guernsey County. Â It happened shortly after 2:00 Saturday morning near the Champion exit (Exit 176). Â Lieutenant J.E. Tracy says an Econoline Tri State Ambulance was transporting a patient westbound when it lost control and drove off the ledge edge of the highway and overturned multiple times. Â Lt. Tracy says at the time of the crash there were four emergency personnel and one patient in the ambulance. Â The patient, 64-year-old Dennis Calvert of Wheeling, West Virginia and a passenger, 39-year-old Charles McMahan of New Matamoras, Ohio were killed in the crash. Â Injured in the crash were the driver 33-year-old Crystal Brown of Proctor, West Virginia, a passenger 32-year-old Jennifer Rothwell, of Wheeling, West Virginia and another passenger, 37-year-old Randi Watson of Glenn Easton, West Virginia. Â Lt. Tracy says the crash, which remains under investigation, occurred during a significant weather event in Guernsey County. Â Once finalized, the report will be forwarded to the Guernsey County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
