The MCLS is teaching tech to battle disinformation

ZANESVILLE- Ohio – While some refer to the internet as the information highway, the Muskingum County Library System is offering programs to help you weed out the misinformation.

The next program in the tech series hosted at the Duncan Falls/Philo Branch Library is tomorrow at 3 p.m. and is free to the public. These programs are available across the county and if you can’t attend one in person, you can request a one-on-one session.

“The internet is a highway of information and sadly a lot of it just isn’t accurate,” said Kylie Bell, a digital skills librarian. “In this program will be going over the basic skills that go into fact checking and the best practices for maintaining a clear head when it comes to the onslaught of information online.”

One key aspect of the program is that it is intended for people of various technological skill levels and needs. Digital skills librarians like Bell are excited to help you through simple and complex concepts whenever you need them.

“You’ll have people come in who have been using technology for years and then they got out of the job market and now they haven’t touched a computer in five years and you see them jumping back in,” Bell said. “Or, we’re helping younger people who just haven’t had the opportunity to use different pieces of technology and having them all work together and seeing that everyone struggles a little bit with different things is just inspiring and very interesting.”
