Five Buckeyes drafted in first round
Five Ohio State Buckeyes attended the first round of the NFL draft in Chicago and the handful got the result it was hoping for.
Joey Bosa (3), Ezekiel Elliot (4) and Eli Apple (10) were drafted in the top 10, while Taylor Decker (16) and Darron Lee (20) also found landing spots.
The San Diego Chargers selected Bosa with the third overall pick, making the defensive end the first non-quarterback taken off the board.
With the next pick, the Dallas Cowboys pulled the trigger on Elliot. Ohio State’s second-leading rusher figures to see carries right off the bat behind a stout offensive line.
Apple is headed to the Big Apple after the New York Giants selected the cornerback with the 10th pick. The New Jersey native ran a 4.40 40-yard dash at the combine and broke up eight passes last season.
The Detroit Lions picked up Decker with the 16th selection, addressing an immediate need at right tackle. The Ohio native was named Big Ten Offensive Lineman of the Year in 2015.
Four picks later, Lee found his landing spot. The New York Jets scooped up the former New Albany Eagle, bringing Ohio State’s grand total of first-round picks to 74.
The Buckeyes are second all-time in first-round selections and are the first school to have three top-10 picks since Oklahoma in 2010.
Braxton Miller, Vonn Bell and Michael Thomas are among the remaining available Buckeyes hoping to hear their names called in the second round on Friday.
