Edward “Ed” Francis Bucknam, 66, of Zanesville, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday, September 15, 2025, surrounded by his family. Born October 27, 1958, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he was the son of Marian and Joseph Cyckowski. On February 4, 1983, Ed married the love of his life, Maria (Hemingway) Bucknam, with whom he shared a lifetime of love, partnership and laughter.

Ed was the beloved father of Ryan (Allison) Bucknam, Christopher (Rebecca) Bucknam, Lauren Bucknam, and Michael Bucknam and the world’s best “Papa” to his grandchildren Ryley, Audrey, Anastasia, Brooks, Lillian, Elizabeth, William, and Matthew- and to his grand-dog, Lupe. He is also survived by his siblings Mark Bucknam, Mike Bucknam, JB Bucknam, Andy Cyckowski, and Diane Cyckowski. And, in keeping with family tradition we must mention his “dog children” Daisy, Chica, and Uli. He will be remembered as the bright, steady light at the center of his family’s world.

Ed dedicated his life to his family and his faith. A longtime member of St. Thomas Aquinas Parish and a proud Knights of Columbus brother, he lived his values through quiet service, steady kindness, and unwavering support for those he loved. He was also a proud U.S. Air Force veteran and spent the last 28 years working with MPW, where his dependability and work ethic earned the respect of coworkers and friends.

Edward was preceded in death by his parents, Marian and Joseph Cyckowski; his in-laws, William and Jean Hemingway; and his brother-in-law, Billy Hemingway.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to Dr. Edmund Folefac, the team at The James Cancer Hospital, and the Genesis Cancer Care & Hospice team for their exceptional care and compassion throughout Ed’s long fight.

Visitation will be held on Friday, September 26, 2025, from 6:00–8:00 p.m. at Hillis Combs Funeral Home, 935 Forest Avenue, Zanesville. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 AM Saturday, September 27, 2025, at St. Thomas Aquinas Parish, 144 N. 5th St., Zanesville, with Fr. David Young as celebrant. The United States Air Force & VFW Post 1058 will conduct full military honors directly following mass. A private family burial will take place at a later date.
