Daniel Avey

Loving father, husband, son, and brother, has finally gone to claim his new body in heaven where he will no longer be in constant pain as of October 10, 2025. He has been reunited with his father, Oren Glenn Avey, who died when Daniel was only 11 years old. Father and son can now enjoy heaven and some fishing trips together in God’s presence. Daniel missed his father the last 62 years of his life.
Dan, as he was known to most, was born on September 12, 1952, in Dayton, Ohio, to Oren Glenn Avey and Edna Mae (Hawkins) Avey, the sixth of their children. He is survived by his daughters, Victoria Beale of Nashport, Ohio, Elizabeth Jerome of Fort Myers, FL, and Michelle (Ryan) Burger of Peoria, Arizona. He is also survived by a daughter, Renee (Jon) Steinbrunner of Beavercreek, Ohio, and a stepson, Zachary (Sarah) Gudorf of Dayton, Ohio. His grandchildren were the loves of his life: Alexandria (Kevin) Jones of Gahanna, Ohio, Drew (Victoria) Ratzel of Nashville, TN, Bradley (Chad) Ratzel of Harrison, MI, and Fort Myers, FL, Ally Ratzel of Dayton, OH, Tracy (Cailyn) Beale of Athens, Ohio, Daisy Beale of Columbus, Ohio, Laci Jerome of Brookville, Ohio, Tegan Burger and Brynna Burger of Peoria, Arizona, and a step-grandchild, Joshua (Lana) Beale of Heath, Ohio. Dan was blessed to meet his great-grandchildren, David and Remi Jones. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Karen Avey, and many Cromley, Avey, and Lackey nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Oren Glenn Avey and Edna Mae (Hawkins) Avey, his siblings, Phyllis Cromley, Thomas Avey, Mildred Lackey, Mary Downing, and Charles David Avey. He was also predeceased by a son-in-law, Tracy Beale, Sr., with whom he was a great friend, and his dog, and trusted companion, Maxwell.
Dan was a fantastic father and grandfather who would do anything for his kids or grandkids. He was a great friend to many through the years, being the type of individual who would give you the shirt off his back to help you. He was raised Southern Baptist and attended Linden Avenue Baptist Church in Dayton, Ohio, for a large portion of his life. He was a proud graduate of the Hobart School of Welding in 1977. He worked for the City of Dayton as a maintenance mechanic, with a specialization in heating and cooling at the Dayton International Airport. Dan was a member of the Irville Lodge #184, Free and Accepted Masons. Upon retirement, he enjoyed fishing, shooting, watching the Cleveland Guardians play, visiting with his kids, grandkids, and great grandkids, and working on cars and other mechanical things, having a keen mind and magical touch which could fix about anything. He was very progressive with new technologies, even playing online games such as Animal Crossing with his grandchildren.
Dan loved life and could make just about anyone he met smile with his sense of humor, and at times, inappropriate jokes. His kids and grandkids will miss his Papaw-isms – the little sayings which would make everyone crack up when he said them. Just as he missed his father, he will be deeply missed by anyone who knew him.
The family invites everyone to Dan’s celebration of life, with visiting hours from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, October 17th, and services at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 18th. The family is assisted by Vensil & Chute Funeral Home located at 110 E. Third Street, Frazeysburg, OH 43822.
