ZANESVLLE, Ohio – Fourth graders from across Muskingum County were treated to a free concert with a globe trotting band hosted by the Zanesville Concert Association (ZCA).

The Canadian Brass played at the Secrest Auditorium for a free concert paid for by the Zanesville Concert Association Foundation and the J.W. and M.H. Straker Foundation. The hour long concert also featured a Q&A by the performers and demonstrations on how their instruments worked.

“This is an opportunity to support the music programs in the school systems and we’ve been doing this for 43 years. So it’s an important element that we offer to the schools, their teachers, and their students,” said James McLaughlin, a board member of the ZCA.

For many students this event served as their introduction to the Secrest Auditorium which acted as the first American concert location for the Canadian Brass who were excited to perform for the young crowd.

“It’s the perfect educational moments when you encourage kids on their first steps in life and music. And here are people who have been playing music maybe for 50 or 60 years. And so it’s a great treat to re-invent the the whole gambit of music opportunities,” McLaughlin said.

The next event hosted by the Zanesville Concert Association is the New York Theatre Ballet presenting “The Firebirds” in November. More Information can be found by visiting their website.
