Eco-Crafting Creations bring people to Dillon State Park

NASHPORT, Ohio – The Dillon State Park Nature Center held two Eco-Crafting Creations events on Saturday. The event was an opportunity for the public to visit the park and create bio-degradable birdfeeders and clay ornaments.
All ages were welcome for the eco-crafting activities, making it an environmentally friendly project you could take home while also learning the creative ways to reuse and recycle items.
“It’s a fun time for people to come together and not only learn a little bit about things, but get involved, get their hands a little dirty, too. We like to look at some of these craft days, not just as something that you can come out and just kind of have fun, but there’s always a learning aspect behind it, too. We like to focus particularly on, like, the eco-friendly side of things. So we’re recycling, we’re reusing, we’re using biodegradable things, kind of a combination of all these different aspects,” said Michael Durst, Park Naturalist at Dillon State Park. “Just trying to be better stewards for the Earth and helping to show people that it’s a lot easier to do than they may think as well.”
A big reason for today’s event at Dillon State Park was to share why it’s important take care of the environment and to bring people together while enjoying what the natural world has to offer.
“Yeah. So, you know, we talk a lot here about ecological health, our local ecosystem, health, how everything is interconnected with each other. And that includes our human communities as well. So, it’s really important to not only realize, but also put some of these things in motion, to make sure that we’re not only taking care of the awesome nature around us, but also taking care of ourselves at the same time,” Durst said. “Learning is a lifetime experience. We’re not. We’re never done learning. There’s always something new to get engaged in and learn something new about, and it’s great. You know, I’m here to help foster those relationships between people of any age and the outdoor natural world. So, it’s great when we get people coming out. We’re as equally excited about these things do.”
Make sure to keep an eye out for more future events at Dillon State Park, like on Wednesday the 31st, they will have a New Year’s Eve hike to wrap up 2025. You can find more details on their Facebook page and at ODNR.gov.
