Charles A. “Chick” Gorsuch 1922-2017

Charles A. “Chick” Gorsuch passed away January 9, 2016. He was born in 1922 and raised in Zanesville, OH. He married Shirley Digby in Los Angeles, CA in 1943, and the two of them raised a family of three children; Jeff, Janet, and Peter.  He had 8 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He attended high school at St. John’s Military Academy, Delafield, Wisconsin. He is a graduate of Miami U. Oxford, OH. After a 3 ½ year tour in the Armoured Force in WWII, he joined the Ayers Mineral Co. of Zanesville. He became president of the company along with its associates the Millwood Sand Co. and the Central Silica Co. The companies were sold to Ogleby Norton Co. in the sixties. Mr. Gorsuch was a director of the First National Bank, past President of the Helen Purcell Home, VP of the old YMCA; he worked many years as Special Gifts Chairman of the United Way. He is also a Life Trustee of the Zanesville Art Center.

He was an ardent golfer; he loved tennis and fished every chance he got. He was an early VP of the Zanesville Country Club and a charter member of the Trinity Presbyterian Church. Shirley Gorsuch passed away in 1998. Mr. Gorsuch then married Barbara Parsons who was a widow. They typically spent six months in Zanesville, OH, and six months in Palm Desert, CA. He was very happy with both ladies. He will be missed in Zanesville and in Palm Desert.

Charles “Chick” Gorsuch is survived by his wife Barbara Parsons Gorsuch, son Jeffrey (Juliet) Gorsuch of Milwaukee, WI, daughter Janet Kozak, of Bethel Park, PA, his sister Elizabeth “Lisa” Figus of Palm Desert, CA., and step daughters Robin Diner, Portland, OR, Patricia (Don) Stephens, San Francisco, CA.

His grandchildren are Gretchen (Bradley) Pilcher, Denver, CO, Katharine (Alan) Johns, London, England, Lindsay (Tim) Rades, Tacoma, WA, Daniel (Erin) Reddick, Crafton, PA, Allison (Patrick) Ross, Venetia, PA, Ashley (Scott) Pritchard, Jefferson Hills, PA, Derek Gorsuch, Zanesville, OH, Abbey (Joe) Weaver, Centerburg, OH.  Also 16 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Shirley Digby Gorsuch, son Peter Ayers Gorsuch, and son-in-law Tim Kozak.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Zanesville Museum of Art: The Shirley Gorsuch Exhibit Hall.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 PM on Friday, January 13, 2017, at the Bryan and Hardwick Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 14, 2017, at 11:00 AM at the Trinity Presbyterian Church in Zanesville, OH.
