2026 County Road & Bridge Projects
ZANESVILLE, Ohio – With the Interstate 70 reconstruction grabbing all the attention, there are several county road and bridge projects slated for 2026.
Muskingum County Engineer Mark Eicher listed some of the major transportation tasks that the county has slated for later in the year.
“For 2026 we have a little over 17 miles of paving, new overlays. It’ll be typically an inch-and-a-half overlay over top of the existing asphalt. That’s equivalent to about $2 million dollars worth of projects right there. We have two bridges that we are bidding out, that will be… contractors will be doing. One’s the First Street Bridge in Roseville, the other is right up here at Kopchak,” Eicher said.
Bridge projects are generally bid out to contractors who specialize in that type of construction and already have the specific equipment and manpower necessary to handle the larger tasks. Eicher said those two bridge projects will total nearly $2 million dollars combined.
“In house, we plan on chip and sealing almost 40 miles of road and that will take up about a-half-a-million dollars worth in materials,” Eicher said. “That’s just in materials only. So that’s two-and-a-half million dollars out of our budget right there. Well, part of that 2 million dollars is grant money. So we got it through a PWC, (Ohio Public Works Commission) through grants.”
Those projects listed were just the major undertakings that are planned. The county will also be tackling numerous culvert replacements, embankment reshoring and hazardous tree removals.
