ZANESVILLE, Ohio – A section of Woodlawn Avenue was closed down February 20, 2017 due to the removal of a historical tree.

Arbor Works in Zanesville was in charge of cutting and removing a tree that was 102-years-old. Robert McGrail who is an Arborist said the tree is being removed due to hazardous conditions.

“It’s an old Victorian home,” McGrail said. “It’s on a historical site, but it’s got a large crack in the top of it. So we’re worried about damage. So the best way to remove a tree like this is with a crane it’s safer, less hazardous, and it gets the job done quicker.”

The tree removal would take about four hours and cost about $6,500 or $7,500. McGrail said if it wasn’t for him they wouldn’t have located the hazardous tree.

“We did a tree removal in the back,” McGrail said. “When I was up in the air I was able to see the crack in the front. As you can see the big part of that section up there is still cracked, which we still have to remove with a crane.”

In spotting a hazardous tree you need to look at the height, location in regards to structures, and how healthy the tree may look.
