ZANESVILLE, OH- The Muskingum County Center for Seniors is entering a new chapter with a fresh name, logo, and look. Now simply called the Center, leaders say while the branding is new, the mission remains the same.

Community members gathered for an open house to celebrate the change with coffee, donuts, and activities like chair volleyball and handprint paintings for the Friends of the Center. Staff and supporters were recognized for helping the organization grow. Leaders also encouraged more people to walk through the doors and embrace aging in a welcoming space.

“We’re not changing our mission, we’re changing the vibe of our center, there are a lot of people here who don’t feel old, and that’s what we wanted to say, I get a lot of times people say ‘I’m not coming to the center because I’m not old’ or ‘I don’t feel old’, well that’s true, we don’t feel old, and we have a great energy here, and so we just wanted to match the energy that we have inside on the outside, and bring a new look to the Center,” said Kate Paul, Executive Director at the Center.

The organization has deep roots in the community. It first opened in 1971 after Sue Morgan Mayle began preparing meals for seniors in the basement of a home on Market Street in Zanesville. On opening day six on site congregate meals were served. Within six months the program expanded to nine congregate meals and 50 home delivered meals each day.

“You’re old enough and you’re young enough, we have people come through these doors that are in their 60s and we have people that are 100, so we have a wide range of people that come to the Center, and we always have fun,” said Paul.

Leaders say the rebrand reflects the energy already inside the building and is meant to encourage more people to gather, connect, and thrive at the Center.
