ZANESVILLE, Ohio- Local law enforcement reported that there were no fatal accidents over the St. Patrick’s Day weekend.

The Zanesville Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office and Zanesville Police Department joined forces to create a concentrated effort to ensure the community stayed safe.

Sgt. Kevin Kelley with the Zanesville Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said they were successful in preventing fatal traffic crashes.

“We did handle 13 traffic crashes that weekend, which is a little bit more than we like, but none of them were fatal so that’s good,” said Sgt. Kelley.

Out of the 185 traffic stops they made over the weekend, 87 of them resulted in enforcement and 27 were seat-belt related.  There were six total OVI arrests made and a stolen vehicle was recovered.

Sgt. Kelley said law enforcement was prepared for the increase in alcohol consumption.

“Obviously the goal this weekend to have a safe weekend. Along with the NCAA tournament starting we were kind of worried that it was going to be a lot busier but fortunately we were able to keep things [somewhat] contained,” said Sgt. Kelley.
