Moxahala Shooting Update

Zanesville, Ohio – Zanesville Police Department closed a portion of Moxahala Avenue for about 40 minutes following a dispute that lead to gun shots being fired.

Just after 2:00 P.M. on March 22,2017 Z.P.D. was notified of shots being fired in the 800 block on Moxahala Avenue. Chief of Police, Tony Coury said when officers arrived they located two females in an altercation.

“Two females started out with a verbal argument,” Chief Coury said. “Which then ensued into a physical altercation. Which then lead to one of the individuals going inside of [850 Moxahala Avenue] retrieving a firearm and coming back out. Once outside there was some shots fired.”

There were no reported injuries and Z.P.D. has the female who used the firearm in custody with charges pending. Chief Coury said after closing the block to traffic they did an initial investigation on the surrounding area.

“We did walk that neighborhood to see if any bullets entered anybody’s residence, but at this time we were unable to find them,” Chief Coury said. “You know if anyone has information, that they believe that their house was struck yesterday to please call.”
