Zanesville, Ohio- The ABC Wilson Fund received over $2,000 dollars today in memory of Tom Morehouse.

The ABC Wilson Fund aims to keep citizens safe by offering free smoke detectors at any fire station in Muskingum County and the money donated today is enough to supply 700 smoke detectors. Assistant Fire Chief in Zanesville, Doug Hobson, explains how the fund came to be.

“Tom Morehouse was a retired firefighter who has since passed away but some of the latest  memories Tom had was of the ABC Wilson fire that happened in 1989. Tragically three boys lost their lives Adam, Brian, and Craig and there was no smoke detectors in the home at that time. So from that fire, a fund has been set up here at the Muskingum County Community Foundation.”

The widow of Tom Morehouse, Shirley Morehouse, recalls how much the tragic event impacted their family.

“This was a tragedy that really struck our whole family, we have three sons of our own. Even though he had Alzheimer’s and didn’t remember many things, this tragic fire was one of his last memories and so in his memory we feel like if we just save even one life all the donations will be well worth it.”
