Big Brothers Big Sisters seeks volunteers

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- The Big Brothers Big Sisters program of Zanesville is in need of volunteers.
They currently have 79 ‘littles’ that are in need of a ‘big.’ The name may make it sound like a large commitment, but Executive Director of Zanesville Big Brothers Big Sisters Jenni Masterson, said the contribution doesn’t have to be.
“We need volunteers,” said Masterson. “It’s two hours, twice a month, and we have schedule agency activities. You can come up for one of those time periods and all you have to do is talk to them, go for a walk, go play ball, it can be a very simple activity but kids just really need that one-on-one time.”
To help find more volunteers they are hosting their Bowl For Kids’ Sake event. This years theme is Alice in Wonderland.
Masterson said the event is the most important fundraiser of the year.
The funds raised sponsor the many activities that make the program possible, but is also to find mentors for their ‘littles.’
“Definitely the reason we’re bowling is because we are matching volunteers to be mentors with ‘littles’ who are kids facing adverse conditions that need some mentorship in their life,” said Masterson.
Masteron urged those who have already picked up their registration packets to be sure to call and set up their bowling times as many of the spots are going quickly.
