ZANESVILLE, OH – Dillon State Park is getting a boost thanks to a Straker Grant awarded to the Ohio State Parks Foundation.

The Ohio State Parks Foundation received $45,000 as part of the January Straker Charitable Foundation grant distribution. The funding will support upgrades to equestrian facilities at Dillon State Park, including improvements aimed at enhancing accessibility, safety, and the overall experience for horseback riders.

“It’s going to provide accessibility opportunities. Not only will a ramp to provide further mobility opportunities for people to easily get on their horses, but also additional horse tie lines along the parking lot so they can easily tie their horses up. There’s also going to be some additional improvements to the restroom facilities for accessibility. Then there’s going to be some additional improvements to horse stalls that go along with the camping area.” ODNR Assistant Director, Mindy Bankey, said.

The funding is part of a larger effort that awarded more than 1 million dollars to organizations across the region. It also supports the Straker Foundation’s mission to expand access to outdoor recreation and opportunities.

“We understand the importance of being outside and we understand the importance of equestrian therapy; it’s a major player right now. So, with organizations like Breaking Free, we love to have them supported especially out here in our state parks and making sure that this is accessible for all people. That’s truly a vision of ours.” Beth Fox, the Director of Special Events with the Straker Foundation, said.

Work on the equine area is expected to begin in April, with upgrades scheduled for completion this fall.
