The National Road and Zane Grey Museum hosts a film screening for America 250

NORWICH, Ohio – The Museum Association of East Muskingum held their second event for America’s 250th anniversary at the National Road and Zane Grey Museum.

On Saturday the museum located on East Pike by Norwich hosted a screening of the 1933 film “To the Last Man” which is based by a novel of the same name by Zane Grey.

“We haven’t gotten a chance to do something like this in a really long time and I think that’s sort of one of the great things about about the America 250 events is it gives us a chance to be creative or bring back things that we’ve done previously,” said Hope Neal, the museum association’s assistant director of operations. “And it’s been really wonderful to see all of the people in the local area who I would have never guessed had an interest in Zane Grey or westerns come out and tell me about their fathers or their brothers who have read all the books and they’re really excited to be able to share this moment with them. ”

Neal says that she likes to say the National Road and Zane Grey Museum has three areas of coverage for Muskingum County and Ohio’s history.

“…we cover three different major areas of Ohio history and our local history. We have Zane Grey, of course, who is an author born here in Zanesville the father of the modern western and the first millionaire author ever,” Neal said. “…his great grandfather, founded the Zane’s Trace that then became the national road which was one of our other coverage areas. And then of course we cover our art pottery which was this thriving industry that sort of helped establish this area as a center of population for everybody.”
