A shoot-out in Dresden leads to no injuries and one arrest

DRESDEN, Ohio – An eviction notice turned into an armed stand-off in Dresden with the Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office and Dresden Police.
A Dresden police officer and Muskingum Sheriff’s deputy arrived at the corner of Chestnut and 9th Street to serve an eviction notice at around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.
“…through a dialogue with our deputy, she told the deputy that she had a gun, ‘the kind that shoots bullets.’ At that point, she was refusing to leave the apartment, our deputy backed out. Dresden (officers) and him held surveillance on the house and we called for some additional units to come up here to Dresden,” Sheriff Matt Lutz said.
After reinforcements arrived on the scene, contact was established with the woman over the phone. After what Lutz described as a lengthy discussion, they tried to force her out of the house by deploying tear gas. When that failed, it became clear to law enforcement that heavy measures needed to be taken.
“And finally, last resort, we ended up using our ram on our Bearcat to take the front door down, and the lady from inside started firing shots at us and at the Bearcat outside,” Lutz said. “So we returned fire and eventually after returning fire the first time, we sent a drone in. She shot the drone down, we returned fire again, and at that point, once the shots stopped, we were able to make verbal contact with her and she did walk out on her own accord and give herself up. ”
There are no injuries as a result of the confrontation and charges will be filed with the Muskingum County Prosecutor’s office.
