Zanesville, Ohio – The Muskingum County Commissioners accepted bids for asphalt emulsion.

Administrative Deputy, Matt Russell, from the Muskingum County Engineers Office presented the bid prices. Russell said asphalt emulsion is a liquid emulsion that they use for filling pot holes and repairing roadways.

“We have to repair the roads of course you know we don’t have the funds to resurface and repave roads every year,” Russell said. “So this is how we can kind of patch them and repair them with different means.”

The bids the Muskingum County Commissioners accepted were from Asphalt Materials Incorporated. The materials unit cost per gallon have increased after a two-year decrease.

“2014 was year where the prices did increase quite substantially and then the last couple of years they have come down,” said Russell. “In fact last year they came down quite a bit. This year they’ve kind of creeped back up a little bit, probably ten cents or so, from the looks of the bids.”

Russell said that once the weather becomes warmer the Muskingum County Engineers Office will start seeing problems surface and what roads need prioritized.
