Smooches for Pooches

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The Muskingum County K-9 Adoption Center has many dogs and sometimes those rescued pets need specialized healthcare.
So out of necessity, they have developed the Griff Fund that covers the expenses of those costly veterinarian procedures. Merle Norman Cosmetics Studio of Zanesville Owner Sharon Shaner explained how her business plays a role in keeping the Griff Fund possible.
“We are having our Smooches for Pooches event, which we have done for the last… this will be our 7th year and we ask customers to come in and donate to the Griff Fund,” Shaner said. “And then with a purchase and a donation, they’ll receive a tote bag and or a tea towel and some Merle Norman treats. And as an added bonus this year, we are donating 10 percent of their purchase to the Griff Fund.”
The Smooches for Pooches fundraiser will take place throughout the month of April at their 1229 Brandywine Boulevard location where you can also receive a five dollar K-9 Adoption Center T-shirt when you make a purchase.
“The Griff Fund was something that was set up by some volunteers several years ago for a dog named Griff that had some extraordinary medical issues that the Dog Warden’s Office necessarily couldn’t pay for. So this fund was set up to assist those dogs that we get into the facility that have medical conditions that go above and beyond the normal budget of the Dog Warden’s Office. Therefore we can pay for certain surgeries and things to keep these dogs healthy and get them back out into the community,” Muskingum County Sheriff’s Deputy Assigned to the Dog Warden Division Zach Keylor said.
During Merle Norman’s partnership with the K-9 Adoption Center, they have donated more than $2,000 to help support the Griff Fund.
