Semi Accident on Interstate-70 East In Muskingum County

Union Township – The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating an accident involving 2 semis on Interstate-70 in Muskingum County.

The accident happened shortly after 4:30 a.m. Wednesday near the New Concord Exit.

According to the Zanesville Post, A 2025 Freightliner (Fedex), driven by Bertovens Jean Baptiste, age 38, of Miramar, Florida was traveling eastbound on I-70. Another 2025 Freightliner carrying construction equipment , driven by Abraham Luna Vatierrez, age 36, of Mexico, was parked on the right berm of I-70.

Troopers said Jean-Baptiste’s vehicle went over the white fog line and struck Vatierrez vehicle. After impact Jean-Baptiste’s vehicle caught fire. Both occupants of the Fedex semi were transported to Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center with minor injuries.

Eastbound I-70 was closed for several hours while crews cleaned up the scene.

Assisting on scene: New Concord Fire/EMS, Perry Twp Fire, Washington Twp Fire, Cassell Station, Muskingum County EMA, Ohio Department of Transportation and EPA.

The crash remains under investigation.
