ZANESVILLE, OH – A local volunteer organization is working to help the less fortunate animals in our area.

The Muskingum County Humane Society is a volunteer-led organization that comes together to provide low cost spaying and neutering, fostering, as well as general assistance for pets and their owners who are in need.

Julie Bay, a Board Member with the Human Society, says their goal is to take care of any sick or neglected animal that comes to them.

“So we provide vet services for animal for owners that are in need or are unable to afford that.” Bay said. “We get random calls from city officials, County officials, as well as community members if an animal is injured and needs emergency vet care and so forth.”

The Muskingum Co. Humane Society does not have a brick and mortar building like other rescues, so they rely on volunteers to help with their mission.

Heather Kubasak, the Treasurer, says they also rely on fundraisers like Comedy for Critters which is happening Friday night at Bryan Place.

“It’s all volunteer, all of us are 100% volunteer and we do any of it without those folks.” Kubasak said. “We couldn’t do any of it without donations without the community and of course our big fundraiser event that we’re having here.”
