Golf event raises money for local scholarships

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- The 31st Annual Drive for Excellence golf event continued their efforts to raise money for local scholarships.
The fundraising event was held at the Zanesville Country Club where all proceeds raised create scholarships for Zane State students in significant financial need.
“The foundation and the college provide about $350,000 a year in scholarships to students, this is one of those events that helps us raise the money to continue to alleviate the financial barriers that a lot of our students encounter,” said Anthony Adornetto, Executive Director of the Zane State College Foundation.
Last year the event raised $30,000 with sponsors and golfers combined. They projected to break that record this year– all for one skill that Adornetto said is imperative in the Zanesville community.
“You know from a personal standpoint there’s nothing that’s more critical to our region than having an educated workforce. Community colleges were established in the 60’s by the Ohio legislature to meet local workforce needs,” said Adornetto. “We meet with, and are advised by, local industries that tell us the skills they need and then our job is to fill that gap.”
Local businesses participated in the event as well as 33 sponsors from Muskingum County and the surrounding area.
The next event the foundation will hold is the ‘Ladies Afternoon Tee’ that will take place on June 12th. You can contact the Zane State College Foundation to register or for more information at (740) 588-1205.
