New Youth Swim Team

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The Muskingum Recreation Center is starting their first youth swim team for children between the ages of six and eighteen.
The Swim Team will be competing in three home swim meets and three away meets. According to Aquatic Sport Manager Libby Hardwick the Recreation Center named the Makos Swim Team off of the fastest shark in the ocean and because Muskingum County has awesome swimmers.
“This program is designed to introduce kids to the sport of swimming,” Hardwick said. “The only requirement is that the child regardless of age has to be able to swim 25 yards unassisted.
Practices will be Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 8:00 A.M. until 9:30 A.M. and 9:30 A.M. until 10:30 A.M. depending on the age of the child. Hardwick said they have nine swim teams use their pool during the high school swim season and they want to introduce and grow the sport to more children.
“Everybody needs to learn how to swim,” Hardwick said. “A lot of the schools in our area don’t have swimming pools where they can teach kids how to swim so this is not to replace swim lessons, but it’s to grow the swimming industry in our area.”
The Muskingum Recreation Center will hold registrations and swim suit fitting on May 16, 2017 from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. For more information visit muskingumrecreationcenter.org
