WASHINGTON TWP., OH- Mother’s Day is right around the corner and some local first responders will be celebrating with a familiar event.

The Washington Township Fire Department is hosting their Annual Mother’s Day Chicken Barbecue.

Firefighter Josh Snouffer said it’s an event their community has been participating in for quite some time.

“Washington Fire Department started their Annual Mothers Day Chicken Barbecue in 1968,” said Snouffer.

The event will take place on Mother’s Day, Sunday May 14th at 11 a.m. and will last until they run out of product. Which Snouffer said happens rather quickly.

“You’ll want to come early because we anticipate a sell out crowd,” said Snouffer.

The dinner has sold out in previous years serving up 1,200 dinners and raising nearly $8,000 to support the fire department. This is their only fundraiser for the year– and one that they certainly count on.

“It’s a chance for us to give back to the community and it’s a chance for the community to support us as well. With the money that we raise, we buy new equipment and update our existing equipment and so forth and it’s just a great event for the entire township,” said Snouffer.

The dinners are $9 each and include half a chicken accompanied by a number of sides. The meals can also be ordered to go.

Tickets can be purchased ahead of time, or the day of the event at the Washington Township Fire Department located at 2310 Adamsville Road. For more information contact (740) 452-2221.
