Distinguished member of the community dies

A distinguished member of the Zanesville community has died.

85-year-old Gene MacDonald passed away Wednesday at Genesis Hospital.

MacDonald was instrumental in the development of many community organizations including the Ohio Mid-Eastern Governments Association(OMEGA) as well as the Ohio Association of Community Colleges.

In 2013, a road was named after MacDonald at Zane State’s Advanced Science and Technology Center .

He was also a former board member of  United Way and active in city improvement projects and school issues.

Calling hours will be held from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday at Bolin Dierkes Funeral Home on Blue Avenue followed by a memorial service at 3 p.m.
