Over 300 cakes at the 40th Annual Carr Center Cake Auction

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The 40th Annual Carr Center Cake Auction has officially kicked off at the Colony Square Mall on Wednesday.
348 cakes are up for auction at support the Carr Center, which offers services through more than 18 active programs to children and adults living with disabilities in Muskingum County. Each cake is donated by local organizations and comes with additional incentives like gift cards and unique items. Executive Director Katie Graham highlights some of the cakes on display and the impact of the event.
“There’s a beautiful swan back there that’s stunning, there’s a Scooby Doo hamburger, which is kind of wild, it’s really cool. A lot of people celebrated America’s 250th birthday. Those cakes are really cool, I think it was Freedom Tactical’s cake that’s beautiful too. There’s just so many and the artistry is out of control. It’s awesome,” Graham said. “It’s kind of wild. I mean to have a fundraiser that lasts 40 years is a true testament to this community.”
According to Graham, the Cake Auction has raised more than $5 million over the last 40 years. The last couple of years have each raised around $150,000 for the non-profit.
“We work on cake for months. Just seeing everyone come together to support our mission, it really touches my heart,” Graham said. “The money raised keeps our doors open. It runs all of our programs so we can keep our adult day (care) open, our speech (therapy), our kindercamp, Safety Town. We rely on this money a lot.”
The Cake Auction continues Thursday at the Colony Square Mall, starting at 9 a.m. If you can’t make it in person, you can listen live on the radio on AM 1240 and 102.3 FM. You can also listen live on our website and bid remotely by calling or through the text lines.
