The 40th Annual Carr Center Cake Auction: Day 2

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The 40th Annual Carr Center Cake Auction wrapped up today at the Colony Square Mall.

Wednesday saw the first 174 cakes with incentives auctioned off and raised $57,595 for the Carr Center. The auction picked back up Thursday morning with help from community members and organizations like G&J Pepsi, which was represented, in part, by Shane Loper.

“I’m from Portsmouth, Ohio, but I come up here to represent our company and just amazed of the participation and the amount of money that is going to this cause,” Loper said. “G & J Pepsi, we’re family owned and anytime we can be a part of the community, we’re always willing to help. We’re all about the community.”

The funds raised help the non-profit organization offer services that assist youth and adults in reaching their fullest potential through educational programs and functional support. Among the hundreds of cakes on display, one in particular piqued Loper’s interest and made him feel nostalgic.

“There’s a Pokémon cake over there. I used to own a ball card shop about 20 years ago and that’s when Pokémon was first originating, and it got huge, and I just, yeah, I think it was the Eevee Pokémon cake that really caught my eye,” Loper said.

348 cakes were auctioned off over the last two days to help fund the Carr Center’s work. The final cake of the auction was WHIZ’s own cake that came with $2,000 worth of advertising. You can learn more about the Carr Center by visiting their website.
