ZANESVILLE, OH – After more than three decades of answering the call to help others, one familiar voice in Muskingum County is signing off for the final time.

For 31 years, Shelly Garey-Willison has been a steady presence at the Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office, serving as a dispatcher and a lifeline for countless people in moments of need. Whether it was a late-night emergency or a simple call for help, Garey-Willison was always on the other end, ready to respond with calm and care.

“It means so much to me. Whether you’re helping people or trying to get somebody through their darkest moments or it might be the worst emergency in their life, you’re trying to walk them through it and help them out as much as you can.” Garey-Willison, said.

Her dedication didn’t go unnoticed. Muskingum County Sheriff, Matt Lutz, says she brought not only professionalism but heart to every shift.

“In dispatch, she’s worked a lot of different shifts. From 3 to 11 and 11 to 7’s. So, she was away from her family a lot. She’s done a lot and it’s really neat to see her get to 31 years and then be able to retire.” Muskingum County Sheriff Matt Lutz said.

Now, after decades of service, Garey-Willison is trading in her headset for some well-earned relaxation and is looking forward to spending more time with loved ones, hitting the golf course, and soaking up the summer sunshine.

“It has been such a pleasure working with everybody that I’ve worked with over the years. It’s been great. I couldn’t have asked for a better group of people to work with. I love them all and I’m going to miss them all.” Garey-Willison, said.

Congratulations to Shelly Garey-Willison on her retirement and thank you for 31 years of service to the community!
