Kayaking

NASHPORT, Ohio – As Ohio actively promotes its state parks, the popularity of kayaking is trending right alongside.
Ohio Division of Parks and Watercraft Natural Resources Officer John Deblo shared how Dillon State Park is now offering kayak rentals.
“More and More people are using the outdoors. Kayaks are a very inexpensive, entry level way to get out on the water. But even with that said, we now have this self-serve kayak kiosk. Visitors that don’t have kayaks can come, scan a QR code, rent a kayak either by the hour or a day rate and get out on the water,” Deblo said.
Kayaks are a small, lightweight, canoe-like, vessel that people can quietly float or paddle around in. Their portability and stealthy attributes allow their operators to get outdoors and get some exercise while exploring the waterways.
“So birdwatching absolutely,” Deblo said. “You’re stealthy, you’re quiet, you can generally get right up against wildlife and not spook them out as you would with other means. Generally on the boat, they don’t really seem to mind you as much as if you were walking or on a powerboat. But you can also, they’re great for fishing, get up into some smaller backwaters, those skinny waters, sight seeing, all of our waterways are beautiful. Our scenic rivers, our lakes, all of them.”
