ZFD: New Details From Saturday’s Fatal Fire

The Zanesville Fire Department has released new details from this weekend’s fatal house fire.
It happened around 5:30 Saturday morning at 1647 Spruce Street and claimed the lives of two people. They are identified as 86-year-old Ferne cash and 60-year-old George Cash. 90-year-old Charles Cash survived and was transported to Genesis Hospital for evaluation. Zanesville Fire Chief Eric Waltemire says the cause of the fire is “electrical in nature and started on the front porch.” He says it was accidental. Waltemire says when his crews arrived on the scene the home was fully engulfed in flames. He says his fire fighters tried to make a rescue attempt into the rear of the house but were unsuccessful due to fire conditions. The house is considered a total loss at just over 72-thousand dollars. The Ohio State Fire Marshall’s Office has been called to assist in the investigation.
