Nellie Gertrude “Gertie” Delmoe

ZANESVILLE
Nellie Gertrude “Gertie” Delmoe, born 101 years ago on March 11, 1916, to the late Floyd and Jennie Smith Durant, died on June 5, 2017. The first born of eight children, she grew up on the farm nurturing her younger siblings: Dick, Russell, Bob and Don Durant, Vivian Smith, Doris Paxson and Diane West (all deceased).
She was a 1933 high school graduate and was employed by Thrift and Super X Drug Stores until her retirement. She was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Gertie will be remembered for her love of family, green thumb gardening and kindness to everyone.
She will be greatly missed by daughters: Diana (Larry) Smith, Teresa Sanders and Rita (Fred) Young; nine grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; a special brother in law Ralph West, who all will cherish her memory.
A private graveside service will be held at Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery. A celebration of life service will be held at 12PM on Thursday, June 8, 2017 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 128 South Seventh Street, Zanesville, with Genesis Hospice Chaplain Tim Patton officiating. The family will start receiving friends at 11:30AM.
The family would like to thank everyone at Brookdale Senior Living and the entire Genesis Hospice team for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a kind act to honor Gertie’s way of life.
