Muskingum Rec. Center prepares for Red, White & Run 2017

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- For National Running Day the Muskingum Recreation Center celebrated by promoting their upcoming race.
The first Wednesday of June has been recognized as National Running Day every year since 2009 to promote the lifestyle and benefits associated with the exercise.
“Some of the major running organizations in the United States wanted a way to kind of celebrate and enhance the running lifestyle,” said Mark Paxton, exercise specialist at the Muskingum Recreation Center.
The 5th Annual Red, White & Run 5K will take place Tuesday, July 4th. The registration fee is $25 until July 2nd, when it will then go up to $30. Those who register before June 19th will be guaranteed a dri-fit race shirt and be entered to win $50 cash.
Walkers are welcome at the race, and it is open to community members of all ages.
“It’s a very important event for the community because it kind of enhances togetherness. We have a lot of families that come and participate together and running is a very important part of a healthy lifestyle so there’s a lot of health rewards for running. It can help reduce your cholesterol, it can enhance your mood, it can help reduce depression so it’s one of our biggest events of the year,” said Paxton.
The race starts at 8 a.m. July 4th and starts at the Muskingum Recreation Center at 1425 Newark Road. For more information or to register, visit www.muskingumrecreationcenter.org/.
