ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Local veterans were honored with a fresh plate of eggs, pancakes, and sausage this morning.

Terry’s Tavern started a full day of Veterans Appreciation Weekend with a free breakfast for all veterans. Followed by a silent auction and according to board member David Frick the proceeds raised benefit the Muskingum County veterans and foundation programs.

“They really appreciate what we’re doing for them and you look at the crowd we got today,” Frick said. “I mean that tells you something that they appreciate the fact that we’re doing something for them and the money is staying here locally.”

Phil Harris volunteers for the Veterans Appreciation Weekend and noticed the growth in the last three years by the items donated for the auctions, the additional teams seen in the Green Valley Golf Outing, and the amount of visitors that attend the Flags of Honor.

“It’s grown, just for instance our major sponsors banner that’s inside last year I think there was maybe a dozen [sponsors donating] 500 plus dollars,” Harris said. “This year we’re up to 37 or 38 [sponsors]. So just in a years time it’s tripled it’s self in the major sponsors.”

Veterans Appreciation Weekend will end tomorrow with the Green Valley Golf Course Outing. Tee off starts at 9:00 A.M.
