The Zane’s Trace Commemoration will bring history and community together in June

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The Zane’s  Trace Commemoration is set to return to the Putnam area in Zanesville next month. The three-day festival will feature live music, food trucks, a parade, and historical demonstrations and exhibits.

Gary Allen is the history director for the Zane’s Trace Commemoration and says sharing local history is his favorite part of the festival. This is especially the case since this year’s theme honors the America 250 celebrations.

“It’s great to be able to find young people that are interested. That’s what we’re here for, to share the history and it’s been a joy. I probably get more out of it than anybody because I have to do the research to even talk about it,” Allen said.

You can sign up for competitions like the Anything That Floats but a Boat Race, the Big Outhouse Race, and the little ones can sign up for the kids’ fishing contest. Zane’s Trace Commemoration President Rick Buck says that there are also plenty of opportunities to volunteer for the event.

“We need all kinds of volunteers, even if it’s for a couple of hours,” Buck says. “I mean we need volunteers to help on the, well that’s another thing, the 5k/10k is back this year, so we need help just holding up some of the cars and stuff at intersections when people are running and such. We need help for everything…”

You can see the full festival line-up, list of vendors, sign up to volunteer, or sign up for any of the competitions by visiting the Zane Trace Commemoration’s website.
