ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Muskingum County Community Foundation’s Scholarship Central Access Program is accepting applications for AmeriCorps Ohio College Guides.

Scholarship Central has been hosting four AmeriCorps Ohio College Guides for seven years. Director of Educational Services Heather Sands said the position is a full-time 11 month position where guides will help middle and high school students transition into college.

“It’s a wonderful position for people who may have just graduated from a four-year or a two-year school,” Sands said. “We accept applications year round. They can apply online, but it’s a great opportunity for local graduates to come back to the community and make an impact.”

According to Sands the College Guides advise students on career advise, academic preparation for postsecondary education, financial aid, assists with the college selection process, and plans college tours.

The guides hold their positions from August 1, 2017 through June 29, 2018. Following the position the guides will receive an education award of $5,800 to be put towards furthering their education or paying off their student loans. Sands said this program is made possible by United Way of Muskingum, Perry, and Morgan Counties for the local students.

“Students that come to visit these college guides and find out more about A.C.T. prep services, college access, any type of preparation when it comes to preparing a resume, helping anyone in the area prepare for life beyond high school,” said Sands.

Digital applications are currently being accepted and Scholarship Central is hoping to have all positions filled by July 1, 2017. Anyone interested can apply by going to mccf.org and clicking the link under the Scholarship Central tab.
