Prepare for flushing hydrants in South Zanesville

SOUTH ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The village of South Zanesville will be checking on important water infrastructure throughout the month of June.

Starting on Monday, June 1, the South Zanesville Fire Department will be flushing all the fire hydrants in the village. On Mondays and Tuesdays, they’ll will be performing these flushes to check the water quality and hydrant function.

“We’d just like the public to know what we’re doing. If you see us out there and the hydrants open, we’re just making sure the system’s good to go, So if we do have a fire in the village, we got a system that’s up and running,” said Russell Taylor, South Zanesville’s fire chief.

Wesley Wiseman is the water superintendent for the village of South Zanesville and he wants people to know that residents need to avoid certain tasks while the process is going on.

“During that time, you want to avoid doing any laundry or dishes or stuff like that. We’re going to put a flyer on our website so people can get on there and look and I think the fire departments going to put it on theirs too, to basically follow the step-by-step procedure on how to flush your home system after we’re done flushing our main lines,” Wiseman said.

That flyer will go live on South Zanesville’s municipal website starting Friday and you can call (740) 453-3113.
