ZANESVILLE, Ohio- A local foundation is setting up new funds thanks to the generosity of a Zanesville native couple.

John and Susan Dorr presented the Muskingum County Community Foundation with a donation of $50,000 to set up two funds; the John & Susan Dorr Scholarship Fund and the John & Susan Dorr Endowment Fund. CEO of the MCCF, Brian Wagner, explained along with scholarships, the funds will help local schools and new businesses.

“The Dorr’s have chosen to establish two different funds the Endowment fund will be used, some of the portions of the proceeds will be used to support programs and projects with the Maysville School District and the Zanesville School District and then also to sort of help support new business start-ups.”

The Dorr’s said they wanted to invest in the community that invested in them while they were young.

” It would have been very easy for me not to go to college when I grow up because of my family background and my economic situation and several folks and organizations helped me and I know I wouldn’t have gone if I didn’t have that help. So Susan and I through our years have talked about giving back and we decided why can’t we go help some other young folks.”

The Dorr’s wanted to issue a challenge to other Zanesville natives who have dome well to give back to their hometown.
