Anne Isabel “Izzy” Gilchrist 1920-2017

Anne Isabel “Izzy” Gilchrist, 97 of Zanesville, died 9:25 AM, Monday, June 19, 2017 at Genesis Morrison House Hospice following a brief illness.
She was born Sunday, May 2, 1920 in New Lexington, the daughter of John McCabe and Anna (Gable) McCabe.
Izzy was a lifelong member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, where she was a member of the Rosary Altar Society. She had a great sense of humor and never met a stranger. Izzy looked forward to Halloween each year to display her costume she would design. She was a kind, loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She will be missed by all her many close friends at the Morris Drive Senior Apartments.
Izzy is survived by three sons: John (Shelia) Gilchrist, Jim Gilchrist and Virgil (Peggy) Gilchrist all of Zanesville; one daughter: Irene (Dan) Eckert of Stockport; eleven grandchildren: Stephen (Kim) Eckert, William (April) Eckert, Angie (Keith) Angel, Katie Lake, Jonathan (Coty Beth) Gilchrist, Jeremy (Sarah) Gilchrist, Stewart Gilchrist, Brian Gilchrist, Bonnie Gilchrist, Brenda (Chris) Steurer and Thomas Gilchrist and eleven great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Izzy was preceded in death by her husband Fred Gilchrist, one son: Robert Gilchrist, one daughter: Doris Lake; three sisters: Helen McCabe, Louise Colopy and Mary Adams and one brother: Fr. Raymond McCabe, O.P.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 AM, Thursday, June 22, 2017, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 144 North Fourth Street, Zanesville, with Fr. Peter Fagen, O.P. as celebrant. Izzy will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband in Zanesville Memorial Park. The family would like to thank the staffs of Cedar Hills, Genesis Hospital and Morrison House for the care and attention given to Izzy.
