Fatal crash in Fairfield County

Lancaster, OH- On June 10, 2026, at approximately 2:43 A.M., the Ohio State Highway Patrol Lancaster Post received a call of a one vehicle crash on Horns Mill Road near Raver Court in Berne Township, Fairfield County.

Upon investigation, it was determined that a 2013 Fiat 500 was traveling north on Horns Mill Road when it failed to negotiate a curve and traveled off the left side of the road.  The vehicle then struck an embankment and overturned, ejecting the driver.  The driver was identified as Ian James McCoy, 36, of Lancaster, and was transported by Berne Township EMS to Fairfield Medical Center.  Mr. McCoy was later transferred to the Ohio State University Medical Center, where he passed away as a result of his injuries.  Alcohol is suspected to be a contributing factor, and Mr. McCoy was not wearing a safety belt.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted on scene by Berne Township Fire and EMS, as well as Lancaster Fire and EMS, and Sniders Towing.

The crash remains under investigation.
