The Living Word Outdoor Drama Returns for 52nd Season
CAMBRIDGE, OH – A beloved summer tradition is returning to Guernsey County. The Living Word Outdoor Drama is preparing to open its 52nd season.
For years, audiences have made their way to the hillside theater to experience Ohio’s only outdoor passion play. The nationally recognized production tells the story of the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ on a 400-foot stage designed to resemble the city of Jerusalem.
“The show details the last 3 years of Jesus Christs’ life including his death, burial, and resurrection. The show will take you from the beginning of his ministry, then you’ll see some of his miracles and his testimony. It’s amazing. We do show the crucifixion scene and the cross, which is very detailed. But then we show the tomb and of course, the resurrection. That’s what the passion play is about, it’s because he lives.” Heath Dawson, Executive Director for The Living Word, said.
Since its beginning, the Living Word Outdoor Drama has welcomed nearly half a million visitors, drawing guests from across Ohio and beyond.
“I love the show nights, and I love to see people come in. It’s exciting and the show is wonderful.” Administrative Assistant, Kim Israel said.
Organizers say the unique outdoor setting, combined with the powerful message of the production, continues to make the experience special for families year after year.
“We feel that this drama is so important because there’s a generation of people and a world that needs to hear about Jesus Christ and the good news that He is alive and He loves us. That’s what it’s all about.” Dawson said.
The 2026 season begins on Friday, June 19th with Good Samaritan Night. It’s the only performance of the season that is free and doesn’t require a paid ticket.
Located at 6010 College Hill Road in Cambridge, the Living Word Outdoor Drama will continue performances every Friday through October 2nd. Shows will not be held on Friday, July 3rd or September 4th due to holiday weekends. Tickets can be purchased at Living Word Outdoor Drama website.
