2026 WHIZ Military Salute Submissions Now Open

ZANESVILLE, OH – WHIZ is proud to bring back our Military Salute Photo Contest for the 7th year.

Every year beginning on Armed Forces Day and going until 9/11, or Patriots Day, we encourage family members and friends to submit a photo of a veteran in their lives.

Jay Benson with WHIZ Stations says the veterans that are selected from the submissions will receive a flag made by the Annin Flag Company in Coshocton.

“It’s really fairly easy for people to go online and post their picture of their favorite veteran.” Benson said. “Could be someone who is already serving or it could be someone who may have already passed. We just encourage people if they want to honor a veteran, please go online and post a picture of your favorite vet.”

Benson says over the years, he’s heard from many community members that they enjoy seeing and reading the stories of these veterans who fought for our country.

He says there are still a few spots available for businesses interested in sponsoring a flag for a veteran.

“I think sometimes, those people that are closest to us, we take them for granted.” Benson said. “You know, we think of a military hero doing great feats but sometimes we don’t think about the guys and the girls who have just gone in and faithfully served and maybe didn’t do any great acts during their time but they served nonetheless and they helped preserve our American Republic by doing so.”

If you are interested in sponsoring a flag, you can call our Station at 740-452-5431. If you would like to submit a veteran to receive a flag, you can head to our website, whiznews.com.
