Richard K. “Dick” Walters, Sr. 1933-2017

Richard K. “Dick” Walters, Sr., 84 of Columbus, died 8:09 PM, Friday, July 7, 2017 at Genesis Hospital in Zanesville. He was born Thursday, February 9, 1933 in Middleport, Ohio the son of Guy Walters and Ruth (Jones) Walters. He married Betty (Colley) Walters on Saturday, November 8, 1952 and was a member of Shadeville Church of God Holiness.

 

Dick served his country in United States Coast Guard during the Korean War after graduating from high school. Following is service to his country; he was drafted to the minor leagues and played baseball for the Cincinnati Reds Minor League Team in St. Louis. He was employed as an Inspector with Lennox Industries, retiring following 37 years of service. Dick was an avid fisherman and continued to enjoy baseball and sports his entire life.  He was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed the time he spent with his family.

 

Dick is survived by one son: Richard K. “Rick” (Amy) Walters, II of Zanesville; one daughter: Shari Walters- Deim of Sunbury; three grandchildren: Brandon (Lauren) Deim and Cody Deim both of Marengo and Aaron Walters of Zanesville; one great grandson: Hunter Brice Deim and special friend and neighbor: Mary Hampton of Columbus.

 

In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by his wife: Betty Walters, four brothers and two sisters.
