Randy L. Cassley, 1951 – 2017

Randy L. Cassley, 66 of Zanesville, died Thursday, July 13, 2017, at his home following a sudden illness. He was born Friday, February 6, 1951 in Lancaster, the son of Philip R. Cassley, Jr. and Estella M. (Lytle) Cassley. He married Christina “Chris” Johnson Cassley on Friday, June 15, 1979.
Randy served his country as a veteran of the United States Army in Korea during the Vietnam War. Randy started his career in sales as a shoe salesman in Columbus as a young man. He developed a passion for advertising and had successful careers with The Advertiser, The Publisher, The Classified Connection, Time Warner and Affordable Advertising. In his spare time, Randy was a local D.J. known as “Rockin Randy”. He was a diehard Ohio State Buckeyes Fan, a Cleveland Browns fan, or as he liked to call them the Cleveland Clowns, and he loved Rock & Roll.
Randy never met a stranger and loved to razz people up talking politics. Randy loved to have fun and had a great sense of humor, and he will be missed by many. He was a member of the American Legion Post 29, VFW Post 1058, Zanesville Quarter Back Club, Eagles # 302, Lafayette Lodge # 79, Free & Accepted Masons of Ohio and Amour Grotto.
In addition to his wife of the home, Christina Johnson Cassley, Randy is survived by one daughter: Cass & Adam Spragg of Zanesville; one grandson: Kyngslee” Sparky” Spragg; one step-daughter: Robyn & Oli Birgisson of South Burlington, VT; one step-son: Jason & Susan Redman of Apache Junction, AZ; three step-grandchildren: Chance & Emerald Redman, & Elsa Olafsdottir; one sister: Gaye Lynn & Thomas Schankweiler, Jr. of Broomfield, CO; two nephews: Thomas & Donna Schankweiler, III of Westminster, MD & Scott & Dawn Schankweiler of Thornton, CO; a brother-in-law: Eric & Maggie Johnson of Chapel Hill, NC; several great nieces and great nephews and a special family friend: Monica Spragg of Zanesville.
In addition to his parents, Randy was preceded in death his brother: Philip (Dink) Cassley, III.
Friends may call Wednesday, July 19, 2017, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, at the Hillis, Combs & Nestor Funeral Home, 935 Forest Avenue, Zanesville, where Lafayette Lodge will conduct Masonic Services at 6:45 PM. Visitation will also be held from 10:00 am till time of service, Thursday, July 20, 2017, where Funeral Services will follow at 11:00 AM, with Rev. Dr. Herbert Hicks officiating. Burial will follow in Zanesville Memorial Park with the United States Army, VFW Post 1058 and American Legion Post 29 conducting full military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Muskingum County Starlight Programs for Developmental Disabilities, 655 Zane Street, Zanesville, Ohio 43701 in Randy’s memory.
