JT Barrett added to Davey O’Brien Award watch list

COLUMBUS, Ohio – It’s college football awards watch list season and Ohio State quarterback JT Barrett has been named as a player who could likely win the Davey O’Brien Award.

Since 1981 the Davey O’Brien Award has been given to the nation’s top college football quarterback. Barrett has been a semi-finalist for the award twice before in his OSU career.

Barrett, who is also a strong contender for the Heisman Trophy this year, will become the first three time captain in school history this fall. The senior quarterback from Texas is just seven touchdowns away from breaking Drew Brees’ Big Ten record of 106 touchdown responsible for.

The Buckeyes open the regular season on Aug. 24 against Indiana.
