Benefit for Daniel Witherow’s family included a crazy hat run

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- The benefit for Daniel Witherow took place at Restoration Park.
The benefit was a fundraiser for the family of deceased Daniel Witherow. Volunteer Roger Bingham said Witherow was killed by a drunk driver back in May. There was music, a silent auction, and a crazy hat fun run. The crazy hat race was inspired by Witherow himself.
“Daniel was a character,” said Race Coordinator Sandra Maxwell. “He was a guy who liked to have fun. We did the crazy hat run because he always liked being out with his family and putting different crazy hats on. So that’s in memory of him.”
The run started at 11 this morning when about 50 people came out to run or walk in memory of Witherow. Bingham said his hat was designed by Witherow’s family.
“(The way) my hat came to be is, I thought I’d grab something simple,” said Bingham. “Then I got to thinking let’s make this a little more interesting. I went over to Daniel’s wife and kid’s house. I gave the kids my hat and said your dad’s always watching us at all times so let’s put eyes on my hat so that way wherever I’m at I can see him and he can see me.”
Witherow was a Pastor and a Sanitation Worker, so Witherow’s wife ran with a garbage can to honor her husband.
