2016.11.14 City Council 1

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- A city ordinance passed July 24th will raise solid waste disposal fees for citizens of Zanesville.

The City Council passed city ordinance 17-80 that will establish new solid waste disposal fees for the city of Zanesville. Sixth Ward for the City Council, Andy Roberts, explained exactly how much more you can expect to pay.

“Currently residential rates are $18.50 per resident they are raising to $21. The senior rate which is right now for anyone 60 and above is $3.50. That’s going to be raised up to $9.50.”

Roberts said the increase of rates come from a need to maintain the city sanitation department.

“If you look out in the county or other municipalities our sanitation rates are drastically lower than those. We provide the service, we provide a good service to the citizens of Zanesville and at a very reduced cost as opposed to some type of private. So this is just to keep us afloat. Keep that fund running flat.”

The minimum age for senior rates will also be increased to 65 but anyone 60 or older currently receiving the senior rates will be grandfathered in. The rates become effective August 1st.
