ZANESVILLE, Ohio- The Ohio Sales Tax Holiday is this weekend and the Colony Square Mall will be hosting a special event.

A Back to School Bash will take place at the Colony Square Mall from 4:00 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Saturday, August 5th.

Kevin Pinson, Colony Square Mall special leasing and marketing representative, said a special guest will be in attendance for the bash.

“We’re going to have Spiderman here from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. to meet with his fans and talk about his adventures,” said Pinson.

Shoppers who spend $150 or more at the mall on Saturday will be eligible for a free backpack as an added incentive to the retailer deals and tax breaks.

Receipts from any mall retailer, even including restaurants and the cinema, can be combined to reach the $150 total, according to Pinson. There will be 100 backpacks that they will start to give away at 4:00 p.m.

“It’s a nice quality backpack. We decided this year to spend a little more money on the backpacks to make sure they’ll last throughout the school year,” said Pinson.

Ohio’s tax break holiday was enacted after the passing of Senate Bill 9. The bill exempts sales tax on clothing items under $75 and school supply items and school instructional materials under $20. It was signed by Governor Kasich this past June.

The holiday begins at 12:00 a.m. on Friday, August 4th and ends at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, August 6th.
